Everytime a friend came heartbroken, looking for some much needed solace in me, I have advised them about the complexities of relationships and how they might have gone for the wrong one. But the question remains: How is one to know who is right or wrong? I am no expert in love but I know this much that when you are ready to make a commitment, ready to be with someone you need to have your heart and head in the right place. Again, I flout my own rules all the time. Giving sound advices comes naturally, following them unfortunately isn't the same case.
You see the point is that most times we look at our better half and dwell in the moment, thinking that things will never change, we'll stay the same and life will be filled with rainbows and sunshine for eternity. Wrong. What we need to do instead is look at him or her and ask ourselves the dreaded question -- Do you enjoy a good conversation and can this conversation last a lifetime? If the answer is yes then go ahead, if not then you need to take a step back and think again. Because life is much more than mere physical appearances or clothes or attraction. All this will fade away and once that happens, you'll wonder if that was it? Fifteen-twenty years down the line, you wont look the same and neither will he or she. Then why base our criteria along these lines? Instead what carries a relationship forward are words, they bridge the gap between you and your beloved. While I sit here and analyze my life I know I am on the right track because my reply to the above question is in the affirmative. I chose maturity, responsibility and simplicity. And with this post I am introducing my significant other to you readers :))
