THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Airports and goodbyes

I could have continued this post with the previous one but I wanted to spend a bit more time pondering over this topic. So what is the deal with feeling sad the moment I land in one of the following surroundings- airports, train stations and bus/jeep stands?

When I got on that taxi to the airport I was already thinking about this feeling. I was confident that my mood would carry a big dollop of nostalgia. I almost always press rewind and relive moments I can think of that made me happy, people that left an impression or start planning for the next trip back. Surprisingly I feel different today. I have a good two hours to kill before I proceed towards the boarding gate and I’m content sitting here in the lounge simply looking around. The GMR group have done a great job with the new terminal. At Kings we discussed the effects of globalisation and one of the talks revolved around how airports are seemingly alike wherever we go. We see the same signs, uniform patterns and instructions etc. Being a Sociologist by training has its perks. Doubt everything. That was the line written behind our Department t-shirt. Now I know why and what it really means. Having a curious mind is an asset and I’m glad I have this aplenty.

So with all these questions and thoughts in my head, it is now time to board my flight. The next entry will come all the way from a distant land. Cheers to love and friendship.
