THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Birthday stories

6th Nov' 11: At the stroke of midnight, when my room-mate entered her 27th year she had tears in her eyes. Prior to that her boyfriend had come over to spend some quality time together and, while I was smiling thinking about how they must be having a lovely time in each other's company, what took place was quite the opposite. I remember having a similar birthday experience two years back. I was so angry with my mother for a silly reason and all I ever wanted was to get away from the house. Just as the day was finally coming to a close and I was still trying to come to terms with the loss of a special day to needless anger, a friend insisted on taking me out for coffee upon hearing that it was my birthday. We sat in Bakers, sipping and chatting for a brief while. It might have been a simple gesture for him, but I was really touched by the thought. I went home smiling and apologized to my mother for behaving irrationally.

Remembering that particular day, I decided to take my room-mate out to Dilli Haat for dinner. It is amazing that even after spending all that time together, we girls never seem to run out of topics for conversation. So we enjoyed our much relished Naga Thali complimented with a fruit beer each.

Another birthday, another experience.
