While she sits there multi-tasking in her thoroughly spruced up room, Jet suddenly plays in the background. She stretches her hand in the direction of the phone, while balancing the dinner plate and a smile on her face simultaneously. She plugs the earphones hurriedly, pauses two seconds and then says a very casual
"Hello"
"What you doing?"
"Me? Well I just had my dinner and I'm checking my email right now. How about you?"
"I am at someone's place for dinner."
"Who someone?"
"A family friend."
"And that is?"
"An Uncle"
"Oh, okay," she goes at the cost of sounding normal, even though her facial expression just underwent a dramatic change.
"I had to be here because he wouldn't have it any other way."
"Well that's okay. Hope you enjoy your meal."
But this was a lie, a big fat lie. If she could have controlled the situation and expressed herself the way she wanted to, then this would have been the sequence of chats:
"Hello"
"What you doing?"
"Me? I am in the middle of dinner. How about you?"
"I am at someone's place for dinner."
"Who someone?"
"A family friend."
"Be precise."
"An Uncle."
"Is it THAT Uncle whose daughter you are rumoured to be dating?"
"I had to be here because he wouldn't have it any other way."
"Uh! Well that is simply great. Enjoy your meal and don't bother calling me again!"
The things she puts herself through. I really feel sorry for her, seeing her go through one of the most testing times of her life. But she seems to be keeping strong, holding on to doubt at times that changes to hope on other days. I wish I could do something for you really, but I can't. This is your battle and you need to win on your own terms.
