THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Life of Pi

I was on a deadline for the last two days. A deadline to finish reading 'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel before the movie is out on 3D on 23rd November. After the Eat.Pray.Love experience, an important thing I've learned is that one should always read the book prior to watching the movie adaptation of it.

Dengyal has been super excited about Pi ever since we saw the promo some months back. I did not care much because I had no idea what it's all about. This one time we went to watch Skyfall in Citywalk and I got to see the promo once again. The movie soundtrack has 'Paradise' by Coldplay as the title track. That was a good enough reason for me to watch the movie, really. I finally took the effort to buy the book post Diwali and last night I finished reading it. Once I start reading, I cannot get myself to stop unless I reach the very end. As a result, I finished the book in a day and a half. I have to say it is well written (well ofcourse! considering the fact that the author won a booker prize for this one) but it didn't leave me fully satisfied. I wish the ending could have been a little different.

Writers scan the length and breadth of the world trying to look for inspiration and stories worth telling. For the readers, a year or two (or maybe more in some cases) of hard work can be bought and discarded in a matter of a few days. It is so convenient for the latter, for people like me. Now I am eagerly awaiting the release of the movie. I really hope Ang Lee has done justice to the story.
