She entered the house to find it in a mess. Piles of clothes lying unapologetically on the floor, crumbled papers thrown here and there and an unmade bed which had surely been in this state for weeks. She took a step inside and felt something on her feet. A roll of socks came from under, requesting her to be tucked in the cupboard, along with the many others she then saw strewn all over the cold floor. It was going to be a productive day after all, she thought. Fast forward three hours and the house had become a home. As she stood there cleaning the last few water bowls, he came from behind and held her hand while resting his head on her shoulder. It was a beautiful moment and for those five minutes time stood still.
Very often in our lives we postpone certain pleasures in the search for the right moment, but we forget that the search is all in vain. Most of my memories are based on impromptu events. All those times I planned days, weeks and months in advance led me on the road to disappointment.
Yesterday as I sat there listening to a friend, I couldn't help but smile myself to sleep later into the night. Change can be positive as well as negative, depending on one’s perspective. I’m glad it has been the former for him. All of us need to breakaway from our daily routine every once in a while -- for some it takes the form of a holiday (a getaway), for a few it lies in the figment of one’s imagination, and for many others it is a question of waiting for the right moment yet again. I have long given up on the latter. Today, there is much to be optimistic about. Like he said, all five fingers dipped in butter. Well butter or no butter, this is going to be a worthwhile chase.
