THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

April 13, 2011

A birthday poem to myself

She silently wished herself a happy day
As she dwelled in the morning breeze,
She waited for the sun to show itself on the horizon
A moment one would want to freeze.
She had images flashing in her head
A mango tree, a pebbled street,
A swimming pool, a crowded canteen,
A group huddled together in the Lachung chill,
One smiling face, ten partners in crime,
Each day a new chapter, each chapter a memorable one.
Then she stood in front of the mirror for a while
Devotion, inspiration, thoughtfulness and dreams
Disappointment, disregard, discomfort and hurt,
Each word proved she had cried a little,
Each word proved she had smiled a lot.
The mountain clouds, a perfect view
New experiences she will always pursue,
Another day, another milestone too
The person staring back at her,
Gently whispered, “Happy Birthday to you”.
