THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Emma

It was when I was going through some shady in-flight magazine that I came to know the movie 'Aisha' is actually based on Jane Austen's novel 'Emma'.

Emma for me is the modern day girl. She is always busy juggling multiple things, trying to make life worthwhile for the people around her, so much so that she completely forgets to take care of herself. What does she want? What does she like? It doesn't matter when you have so many people to keep you on your toes 24/7. Emma loves match making. In fact she overestimates her ability to do so. Because her father is so protective of her and feels she doesn't need any other support, already being this wealthy, Emma feels the same. She loves the people around her but her definition of love connects with social standing and material wealth. Until this bubble gets rudely burst one day when she tastes failure in a well-planned affair. Over the period of a few summers, Emma realizes how wrong her outlook was. She discovers how she has always taken the presence of Mr. Knightly for granted. She gets confused and questions her own doings in the past.

Towards the end of the book, the reader gets the sense that she is a kind hearted person who has some flaws. Once corrected, from there on, everything falls into place. In the end, Mr Knightly and Emma get married to each other and ride into the sunset.
