THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

A thoughtful future

A conversation with my dad’s driver made me realize what we are capable of thinking but only to the extent of it suiting our desires. His wife is pregnant for the second time and they are desperately hoping for a son. Why a son you ask? The answer is pretty evident I believe. “To further the family lineage”, said the daju. I question why can’t we apply the same logic to plain civic sense? Sikkim is our heaven. What we do today will ensure sunny skies or dark clouds for the future generation to come.

If we are so keen on ensuring our names live long after we’re gone, then maybe a little understanding to leave our surroundings in the same way wouldn’t hurt. After all it is only fair our children get to experience a piece of this heaven exactly the way we have. I feel it’s a question of desire and want. If the want is lacking then we’ll continue descending from one level to the next one below. Do we really want to gift this to our future? It’s time we became the agents of change. Individually.
