So when I look back at all the times I actually planned something for New Years Eve, it always turned out to be quite the opposite. This year was no different.
Back home after a couple of years, I was hoping to be in bed before midnight but my friends had other plans. I was out for dinner after which I headed to a private party hosted by my cousin. This was a closed affair with everyone knowing everyone. It was one of those nights where you are comfortable and uneasy at the same time. The first couple to break the dance floor were wearing red. I was wearing red. With the sole intention of having a good time, I danced to my heart’s content. Half an hour before the clock struck midnight, we decided to head to another party. Because it was a pool party, I assumed it would be fun. So four people got in the Fabia and headed downhill. By the time it was midnight, we were parked outside a famed psychiatrist's clinic and feeding each other brittania fruit cakes, holding a lemon juice each. I don't think when each of us woke up in the morning, we imagined celebrating the New Year at a spot like that and, more importantly, with such random company. This makes us part of a memory now and I guess we are thankful in our own ways for that experience.
Twenty minutes later, we reached our destination. Right at the entrance gate, I overheard a conversation that went, "Ambo! I am having damn fun ya". It was a signal of what was to follow. The deejay kept intruding in the middle of every song with his "Are you all having a fun?" lingo. The crowd was as trashy as could be, save a few people. BCs in their best avatar- pretty displays until you hear them speak in Neplish. An hour later we headed back to the former party but it was too late by then. Everyone was ready to leave and so did we. We were left with no choice really.
Five people in total, we then decided to head for coffee and sandwiches. Between catching a friend red handed and having a few laughs over a cup of mocha, it was here that I had the best time of the night. We simply shared thoughts, a few jokes and experiences we may have had. I was with people who matter the most. With this I enter into the New Year, hoping that I can live my dreams in reality, with people I love and who love me supporting me each step of the way.
Happy New Year.
