THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Couples coupe and I

There came a point today in the evening when I was sitting there, blankly staring at the wall in front of me. On my right was my cousin and his girlfriend. He was eating while his partner lovingly looked on. And on my left was another cousin. His girlfriend was sipping the beef soup, which I (wisely) chose to avoid after seeing all the fat floating on top, while my cousin was clearing her plate. Three words came in my head at that point of sudden realization thanks to a friend I have been hanging out with a lot lately- What the f**k?!!

I have been trying every excuse in the book to avoid staying in my new room. The fact that my room mate was from the North-East made me heave a sigh of relief some weeks ago but that was not it. The room was a nightmare- peeling walls, an unstable bed, a big black hole above ‘my part’ of the cupboard (which was to give me scary thoughts of a Japanese ghost popping her head out in the first night to be spent alone) and a carpet of dust, literally.

After spending three nights in different locations, I finally decided it was time to sleep in my room. With a heavy heart I was in my room at 11pm. There wasn’t a lot to do really except sleep, this after coming to know about the severe water crisis in the hostel. The first thing after waking up in the morning, I was outside my friend’s hostel.

Tonight, just like yesternight, I am at my cousin’s place. We decided on making pork momos for dinner so this is why I found myself in the middle of a couples’ only affair; a realization which should have struck some hours ago. Never mind.
