THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Talk the talk

The past week has been a real pain in the a**. After a much sought after date with the Naga thali, I ended up having major food poisoning. Even though I was sick, I still reported for work like usual. Bad move. I got so sick by Thursday that I had to take the Friday off and have an extended weekend to just sit back and relax. I was practically indoors for the next two days but still me being me, I ventured out on Sunday because I really REALLY wanted to eat some good Chinese food so Yo! China it was. I bet the American presidential candidates could also have used some good food. So who do I support? I would have to say Hillary Clinton. Now please don’t read this as a gender issue. I really respect Mr. Barack Obama a lot and I think America needs both these leaders one by one. Its just that I feel the former is more than ready to take on the reigns of the Presidentship for now.

Looking at what is taking place in our own country it’s a big shame. Issues like regionalism shouldn’t actually be creeping up in a country like India which is supposed to be the largest democracy in the world. Are people supposed to stay within the boundary limits of their own state? Mumbai being the economic and film capital has a lot going for it but one must not forget that it is the labor of diverse people coming from all over the country that makes it what it is. Some idiots onscreen were saying, “Ever since outsiders have come there is more unemployment, we don’t get jobs etc”. My take- if you are not rightfully qualified yourself then what job are you expecting? What do you mean when you say you are unemployed? If we go by what is being said, then Indians should not even venture abroad. How can such absurd comments be passed. Politics has always been a dirty game and it leaves me disillusioned all the more.

Cricket has also been in the headlines for a while now. The Harbajan issue gave way to a whole new discussion: Are we racists? Some papers (and people) claim, “No, ours is the land of the Gandhi so how can we be called by such a tag?” In some ways I tend to agree with that but then look at what is taking place right now. The divide between the so called North Indians and South Indians, the various caste issues that we keep hearing about in this modern era etc. Having said all that, one would have expected the Indians to fare well at the series and prove the Aussies wrong but look what happened! Twenty twenty world champions and 74 all out down under. Embarrassing I say! Then there are the Sri lankans. I really liked the way they reacted to the egg throwing incident. In the world of sports such jeering and booing will keep happening. It happens in football, in tennis and so on and so forth. Where there are fans there are loyalties and with loyalty comes enemity. Hope the team does better in the commonwealth series.

Another Indian sportstar who’s been facing some rather absurd charges is Sania Mirza. Last heard she said she wouldn’t be playing in the Bangalore open. Go girl! I personally feel that was the right decision. Instead of being proud that she is representing our country (where one doesn’t get the necessary aid and support as potential talents), how can we be such cynics and keep raising trivial matters? It’s about time we refresh ourselves and aim in the right direction. Not that we don’t have anything positive going on in the country but as they say majority wins and in our case the majority needs to undergo a radical change if we want to keep pace with the outside world.
