THE IMPONDERABILIA OF EVERYDAY EXISTENCE

Defining love

(Feb 2004: This was my viewpoint some years back. I’ll be writing a follow up soon.)

What is love? Can anyone give me the perfect definition? I don't think so because love means different things to different people. For me, love might mean a special bonding between two hearts, for others it might be a mere feeling and there may be some who may not believe in love at all!

I started realizing that there is something called boyfriends and affairs after I entered the ninth standard (too late I suppose as compared to today's youngsters who come into terms with all these pretty soon). What we see among them is plain liking and attraction but they make the mistake of using the term love. I don't think love is something you experience every two three months after breaking up with one guy and liking another. We can admire or like a person but it doesn't necessarily have to be love. Love should be considered a sacred feeling which should be saved up for that one person who is able to make us smile by doing little things everyday, making the simple and ordinary things look extra-ordinary.

Okay! some might say how do we know which person is the right one for me? In the quest of looking for the right guy, one may try and date as many as possible before finally settling down. I want such girls to be aware of the fact that we live in a very small society, where everyone or almost everyone is aware of who’s doing what, and such behaviour will only result in a bad mark in one’s character. If that is the case then why go round looking for the right guy? If you stay firm to your ground then one day Mr. Right will be standing in front of you. Just be honest, true to yourself and simple because simplicity in all the ways is the hardest to be copied.

Men are very cunning when it comes to relationships. What they say in front of us and what they say behind is an entirely different thing. They may give sweet talks but there are hardly few guys who show their real picture. Most of us seem to go for looks and these days money is a more important criteria, hardly anyone stresses on the character part. Its time we girls faced the fact that looks and money are not everything. It is true that all of us want our boyfriends to look presentable but he doesn’t have to be so good looking that one has the constant fear of losing him to prettier girls.

I’ve noticed that different girls look for various qualities in a guy - one may consider looks important, another may go for character, some may consider money matter and so on and so forth. But almost all the guys want their girlfriends to have everything... all qualities in one! I think that is quite demanding. However I don’t blame the poor souls because there is something called a perfect woman but a perfect man? Well that’s for you to decide.

So, all you young girls waiting to discover love, just remember to take your own sweet time and enjoy life as well. Choose your partners carefully, after all you don’t love a person you can live with but you love a person you cannot live without.
