After weeks of rain, I woke up to a bright morning and my spirits have been high ever since. April is here. Spring is here. With an impending 26th birthday on my mind, I thought about the 26 lessons I have learn't so far. So here goes:
1. Family ties loosen over the years and new bonds are formed. But that doesn’t mean we lose sight of relationships that matter the most to us.
2. Education can make a person literate, not necessarily educated. There is a big difference between knowledge and action.
3. Kindness and hard work are two qualities that matter more than intelligence ever did.
4. I have never been friends with someone for just one season. Once a friend, always a friend.
5. And continuing with the same point, my friends, no matter how opposite to me, are my pillars of strength. Wherever you are remember I love you and remember I’m always there.
6. No amount of money can buy that feeling, the feeling of putting a genuine smile on someone’s face through a simple effort.
7. Some people have the power to hurt us only because we have given them the power to do so.
8. I travelled 4000 miles and more only to discover that there is no place like home :D
9. Nothing haunts like the things we don’t say.
10. A prayer isn’t always about a one-sided conversation where you keep asking for more and more. Sometimes we just need to thank god (if there is one) for the opportunities that have been bestowed on us. The life we have right now.
11. It's always a good thing to aim high but that's not enough. You need to make it happen.
12. Bad things do happen to good people.
13. A lot of us feel that holding on to something is where you show your real strength whereas, on the contrary, it is the letting go that requires the most effort.
14. No Starbucks, no McDonalds, no KFC, no Nandos can beat the taste of aloo chura. A plate of your childhood memories. That’s what it is.
15. We have only one life. Live it exactly the way you want to but not at the cost of hurting others, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
16. A single person’s efforts may not be enough to change the world, but it can be enough to change someone’s world. Making a difference, no matter how big or small, is what counts.
17. Smile. If not for yourself, for others. If I’m smiling right now then it’s only because I’m doing something right.
18. Many people are in pain- no matter how smart or accomplished- they cry, they yearn, they hurt. But instead of looking down on things, one needs to look up. Because when the world quiets to the sound of your own breathing, we all want the same things: comfort, love and a peaceful heart.
19. Meaningful lyrics and beautiful music is my weakness. Kindly keep the pop idols at bay.
20. Sitting in a Mercedes isn’t quite the same as a cycle rickshaw ride in Delhi. The latter wins hands down as far as I’m concerned. And with mint choco-chip ice cream dripping down your fingers, it couldn't get better.
21. It’s good to show your emotions every once in a while.
22. Read as much as you can. A good book is a better company than baseless talk.
23. What you can’t say, write. My blog has been my saving grace for all those times I’ve wanted to say something but felt scared to do so.
24. Justin Timberlake wasn’t merely singing a song when he said ‘What goes around comes around’. Karma does exist and there is no escaping it.
25. To be successful in life we need three things: talent, hard work and luck. Talent is inborn and differs from person to person while luck is something we have no clue about. The last one remaining is hard work and this is something common to us all. If you work hard, the world is at your feet.
26. There is no end to desires. Today you yearn for a hundred bucks. Tomorrow even a thousand more will feel insufficient. The idea is to be content.
(Im sure I still have a lot of lessons to learn but it feels good to know that I'm doing something right, or so I think, by reflecting over things.)
